EyeStill — Privacy Policy

EyeStill is a browser extension and a web reader (eyestill.com) that show subtitles, AI chat answers and books one word at a time at a single point of focus. This policy explains what data they handle. In short: almost everything happens in your browser; text leaves your device only for the features listed below, and we do not sell data, show ads or track you.

What stays on your device

• Page content. To show subtitles and AI answers, the extension reads caption text and the text of AI chat answers on the pages you visit. It is processed in your browser.
• Video frames. To place subtitles near the speaker's face, the extension analyzes small, downscaled frames of the video you are watching with on-device face and pose models (MediaPipe). Frames are never stored or sent anywhere.
• Settings and reading progress are stored in the browser (chrome.storage, localStorage, IndexedDB). Settings in chrome.storage.sync are synced by Chrome through your Google account if you have Chrome sync turned on.
• Chrome's built-in AI (Translator, Language Detector, Prompt API), used for on-device translation and punctuation, runs locally in Chrome.

What is sent off your device, and when

Cloud translation of YouTube subtitles

Only when you turn on subtitle translation on a YouTube video that has captions: the caption text of that video and the two language codes are sent to our server at eyestill.com (hosted on Vercel), which forwards them to the DeepSeek API for translation. No account, name, email or browsing history is sent. Translations are cached on our server for up to 30 days under a hash of the caption text, so the same captions are not translated twice. Your IP address is used for rate limiting and may appear in the hosting provider's request logs.

AI services you configure yourself

If you choose an external text-enhancement provider in the extension settings (a local Ollama server, or a cloud API such as Groq or Gemini with your own key), subtitle text is sent directly from your browser to that provider under its own privacy policy. Your API key is stored in chrome.storage.sync and sent only to that provider.

Opening text in the EyeStill reader

"Open in reader" opens eyestill.com (or the address you set) in a new tab and passes the text to that page inside your browser; the text is not uploaded to our server. In the reader, the optional ambient background art (on by default, can be turned off in the reader's settings) sends a short prompt built from the current passage, the title and the author to Pollinations.ai to generate an illustration, directly or through our image proxy at eyestill.com/api/image-proxy.

What we do not do

• No analytics, advertising or tracking scripts; no selling or sharing of data for advertising.
• No collection of passwords, payment data, contacts or browsing history.
• No use of your data to train AI models.

Permissions

The extension requests access to web pages to find subtitles, video players and AI chat answers on them, storage for settings, scripting and activeTab to start reading on the page you are on, and contextMenus for "read selection" in the right-click menu.

EyeStill — расширение для браузера и веб-читалка (eyestill.com), которые показывают субтитры, ответы нейросетей и книги по одному слову в одной точке фокуса. Коротко: почти всё происходит в вашем браузере; текст покидает устройство только в перечисленных ниже функциях; мы не продаём данные, не показываем рекламу и не следим за вами.

Что остаётся на вашем устройстве

• Содержимое страниц. Чтобы показывать субтитры и ответы нейросетей, расширение читает текст субтитров и ответов в чатах с ИИ на открытых страницах. Обработка идёт в браузере.
• Кадры видео. Чтобы ставить субтитры у лица говорящего, расширение анализирует уменьшенные кадры видео моделями лица и позы на устройстве (MediaPipe). Кадры нигде не сохраняются и никуда не отправляются.
• Настройки и прогресс чтения хранятся в браузере (chrome.storage, localStorage, IndexedDB). Настройки в chrome.storage.sync Chrome синхронизирует через ваш аккаунт Google, если синхронизация включена.
• Встроенный ИИ Chrome (Translator, Language Detector, Prompt API) для перевода и пунктуации работает локально в Chrome.

Что и когда отправляется с устройства

Облачный перевод субтитров YouTube

Только если вы включили перевод субтитров на видео YouTube с субтитрами: текст субтитров этого видео и коды двух языков отправляются на наш сервер eyestill.com (хостинг Vercel), а он передаёт их в API DeepSeek для перевода. Аккаунт, имя, почта и история посещений не отправляются. Переводы кэшируются на сервере до 30 дней по хэшу текста субтитров, чтобы одинаковые субтитры не переводились дважды. IP-адрес используется для ограничения частоты запросов и может попадать в журналы хостинга.

Сервисы ИИ, которые вы подключаете сами

Если в настройках расширения выбран внешний сервис улучшения текста (локальный Ollama или облачный API вроде Groq или Gemini с вашим ключом), текст субтитров отправляется из браузера напрямую этому сервису по его правилам. Ключ API хранится в chrome.storage.sync и отправляется только этому сервису.

Открытие текста в читалке EyeStill

«Открыть в читалке» открывает eyestill.com (или заданный вами адрес) в новой вкладке и передаёт текст странице внутри браузера; на наш сервер текст не загружается. В читалке фоновая иллюстрация (включена по умолчанию, отключается в настройках читалки) отправляет короткий запрос из текущего фрагмента текста, названия и автора в Pollinations.ai, напрямую или через наш прокси eyestill.com/api/image-proxy.

Чего мы не делаем

• Никакой аналитики, рекламы и трекеров; данные не продаются и не передаются для рекламы.
• Не собираем пароли, платёжные данные, контакты и историю посещений.
• Не используем ваши данные для обучения моделей ИИ.

Разрешения

Расширение запрашивает доступ к страницам, чтобы находить на них субтитры, видеоплееры и ответы чатов с ИИ; storage — для настроек; scripting и activeTab — чтобы запускать чтение на текущей странице; contextMenus — для пункта «читать выделенное» в контекстном меню.
